4.4.5 Fuze failure. Independent of the disposition of the lot in accord-
ance with 4.4.3.1 and 4.4.4.4, smoke pot failures solely due to malfunction-
ing of the fuze shall be evaluated in accordance with MIL-STD-105 using an
AQL of 2.5 percent defective. Final disposition of the smoke pot lot shall
be based upon the number of malfunctioning fuzes found in the original sample
of smoke pots tested, provided all other requirements are met. Refuzing the
smoke pots which had fuze failures is permitted in order to complete testing
and evaluation for smoke pot performance requirements, unless the number of
defective permitted in 4.4.3.1 has been exceeded or the requirements for
burning time have not been met.
5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY
5.1 Packaging, level A. The smoke pots shall be individually packaged as
specified on Drawing C11-7-20. Two keys, Drawing D22-129-1, shall be packaged
together in accordance with method IC-1 of MIL-P-116, except preservative is
not required.
5.2 Packaging, level A. Sixteen smoke pots, packaged as specified in 5.1,
shall be packed together in one layer in either an overseas type, style I of
PPP-B-601; class 2, style 4, for a type 2 load, of PPP-B-621; or a type I,
class 2, grade A of MIL-B-46506 wood shipping container. The inside dimen-
sion of the shipping container shall be 11 by 11 by 6-5/8 (length, width
and depth respectively). The wood shipping container, and all wood parts
thereof, shall be completely imnersed for a minimum of three minutes in a
water-repellent wood preservative conforming to Composition A of TT-W-572.
Prior to packing the smoke pots in the treated shipping container, the
preservative shall be dry when tested for dryness in accordance with MIL-
5-2427. Fiberboard pads, conforming to grade W5c of PPP-F-320 shall separate
the contents from the sides, ends, top and bottom of the shipping container.
Additional pads shall be used as required to insure a tight pack. One
instruction card, conforming to drawing B11-18-4, and one package containing
two keys (see 5.1) shall be in the shipping container on top of the packed
smoke pots. Closure of the shipping container shall be in accordance with
the appendix to the applicable box specification, using galvanized strapping.
5.3 Marking. In addition to any special marking required by the contract
or order, Interior packages shall be marked in accordance with Drawing C11-7-20
and MIL-STD-129. Shipping containers shall be marked in accordance with
Drawing D11-8-8. Sufficient drying time shall be allowed after application
of the wood preservative, to insure that all marking shall be clean, legible
and permanent.
5.4 Palletization. When specified in the contract or order, shipping
containers shall be palletized in accordance with Drawing D11-8-7.
